When John Mulkearns BSc PGCE, owner of Cafe Florin and a former senior science teacher from London was approached by Theresa Coe the Spanish Lessons columist for the Canary News about starting a Language Exchange Group it was an idea she had been fostering since she started writing the Spanish Lessons column back in 2009

Others had made previous attempts to start such groups but they all lacked a suitable meeting place.
At that time, just an idea for Theresa she too had no venue or resources to start the Group.
She was advised by Genna D'Cruz the former Owner/ Editor of the Canary News to talk to John at Cafe Florin and see if he would support the idea.

The initial meeting was at the Cafe in late 2010 and was between John, Theresa and Maria, a Spanish teacher of English. The three teachers discussed the options and with John Mulkearns help the Language Exchange Group became a reality, with Cafe Florin serving as the venue the first meeting took place few months later
Since then John and Theresa have been working together to establish the "Intercambio de Idiomas" meetings over the Spring and Summer of 2011 at Cafe Florin.
On the back of the success of Cafe Florin a second venue. in Las Palmas was added to the LEG (Language Exchange Group) meeting places, and more recently following TV Canarias, the local Television News station broadcasting a storey filmed at Cafe Florin, two more meeting venue have been announced, one in Telde and another in Vecindario.

Las Palmas Carnival, why do the dates chage so much? In 2011 the dates were - 15th February - 12th March
and Maspalomas Carnival - 17th March - 27th March

Gay Pride Gran Canaria is much more "professionaly fixed each year- 6th May - 15th May 2011 and 7th May - 13th May 2012

Monday May 6th was the opening night for Gay Pride 2012, an intial crowd of around 2000 inside the Yumbo Center on the ground floor to watched the opening mini parade as the Yumbo starts to buzz with drummers, dancers at around 10pm
